The Secretary of Labor is Eugene Scalia. He was sworn in on September 27, 2019. He graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia. He also attended the University of Chicago Law School and graduated cum laude. While attending the University of Chicago Law School, he also served as the editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
Secretary Scalia’s job is to oversee the administration and enforcement of over 180 federal employment laws which covers over 150 million workers spread over 10 million places of work. Some of the laws include safety regulations of the Mine Safety and Health Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), anti-discrimination requirements for contractors, federal minimum wage and overtime, and employee retirement and health plans. As the Secretary, he also chairs the board of directors of the Pension Guaranty Corporation (this insures U.S. private pension plans). He is also on the board of trustees of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Fund. His priorities include enhancing employment opportunities, improving efficiency and effectiveness in the Department of Labor’s programs, and enhancing worker training.
Russ Vought is the Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). He has been serving as the Acting Director of OMB since January of 2019. Before serving in the current administration, he worked in Washington with grassroots and public policy organizations for over 20 years. He graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College. He got his Juris Doctor degree in 2004 from the George Washington University Law School.
Director Vought is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the President’s policy, management, and regulatory agendas all over the executive branch. There are five critical practices involved in the implementation. The first is to have a budget plan and its execution. Second is management, this includes oversight of agency performance, financial management, human capital, information technology, and federal procurement. The third is regulatory policy which includes the coordination and the review of all the important federal regulations of executive agencies. Fourth is legislative clearance and its coordination. Last is the executive orders and the presidential memoranda.
The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is John Ratcliffe. He was sworn in on May 26, 2020 which makes him the sixth Senate-confirmed Director of National Intelligence in American history. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his law degree from the Southern Methodist University.
Before serving in the U.S. Intelligence Community, Director Ratcliffe was representing the Fourth District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also worked in the House Intelligence, Judiciary, and Ethics Committees. Additionally, from 2015 to 2019, he worked as the chairman of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee in the Committee on Homeland Security.
Director Ratcliffe serves as the overall head of the Intelligence Community (IC). He is the main advisor to the President and the National Security Council when it comes to intelligence matters in relation to the national security of the United States. He also oversees and directs the implementation of the National Intelligence Program.
Jovita Carranza is the Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA). She is the 26th Administrator of the SBA. She is a native of Chicago and is also a founder of a small business consulting company. She earned her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Miami in Carol Gables, Florida. She also received executive, management, financial, and governance training from various schools (INSEAD Business School in Paris, University of Chicago, and Michigan State University).
Before all of this, she started working part-time as a night-shift box handler for the United Parcel Service (UPS). From there, she worked her way up to become the President of Latin America and Caribbean operations. Her 30-year career made her the highest-ranking Latina in the history of UPS.
As a member of President Trump’s Cabinet, she campaigns on behalf of the 30 million small businesses all over America. In her job as Administrator, she directs a team of specialists dedicated to make sure entrepreneurs situated across America have the support and resources they need to begin, develop, and expand their small businesses, and recoup in the aftermath of a confirmed disaster.
The Secretary of State is Mike Pompeo. He was sworn into his position on April 26, 2018. Previously, he served as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Before serving in the Trump Administration, he was on his fourth term as a congressman from the 4th District of Kansas. He also served on the House Intelligence Committee, House Select Benghazi Committee, the Energy and Commerce Committees, and the Energy and Commerce Committee.
Additionally, before his service in Congress, Secretary Pompeo established Thayer Aerospace. He worked as the CEO for more than ten years. Later on, he became the President of Sentry International which is a company that manufactures, distributes, and services oilfield equipment.
Secretary Pompeo graduated first in his class at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1986. He served as a cavalry officer in charge of guarding the Iron Curtain prior to the Fall of the Berlin Wall in November of 1991. Also, he served together with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the US Army’s Fourth Infantry Division. After retiring from active duty, he attended Harvard Law School, and was also an editor for the Harvard Law Review.
Elaine L. Chao is the Secretary of Transportation. This is her second time to hold a cabinet position as she served as the Secretary of Labor from 2001 to January 2009. She is also the first Asian American woman to be assigned to the President’s cabinet in American history. She is a resident of Jefferson County, Kentucky.
As the Secretary of Transportation, she is a strong supporter for safety, and the importance of infrastructure and innovation in the nation’s economic effectiveness and development. She had very extensive experience in the transportation sector. Early on, she specialized in transportation financing while working in the private sector. She started her executive profession in public sector by working on transportation issues at the White House. She then served as Deputy Maritime Administrator to the U. S. Department of Transportation, as Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, and as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation
Secretary Chao, while speaking no English, immigrated to America at the age of eight with her family. At 19 years old, she obtained her citizenship. She earned her Master’s in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and a degree in economics from Mount Holyoke College. Respected for her vast track record of accomplishments and public service, she is the recipient of 37 honorary doctorate degrees.
The Secretary of the Treasury is Steven T. Mnuchin. He is the 77th Secretary of the US Treasury. He was sworn into his position on February 13, 2017. Prior to his appointment, he was the Chairman for Donald Trump for President and toured widely along with the President. He also worked as a Senior Economic Advisor to the President in advancing his economic program.
Secretary Mnuchin’s job is to govern the US Treasury with the mission to sustain a strong economy, promote economic growth, and generate job opportunities by securing the conditions that enable prosperity at locally and internationally. He is also in charge of bolstering the national security by tackling economic threats and protecting the financial system while also managing the U.S. Government’s finances.
The Secretary was born and raised in New York City. He has a bachelor’s degree from Yale University. He worked at The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. where he was a Partner and served as Chief Information Officer. He was also the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dune Capital Management. He established the OneWest Bank Group LLC and was its Chairman and CEO until it was sold to CIT Group Inc. These gave him extensive expertise in global financial markets and investments.
The Trade Representative is Robert Lighthizer. On May 15, 2017, he was sworn in as the 18th US Trade Representative (USTR). He is an experienced trade litigator and negotiator. He has a history of standing up for American businesses, manufacturers, workers, and farmers.
When he was selected by President Trump as USTR, Ambassador Lighthizer was a partner at a law firm called Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom LLP (Skadden). He exercised international trade law for more than 30 years. His work there on behalf of American workers and businesses in the agricultural, high-tech, heavy manufacturing, and financial services industries opened markets to US exports and protected U.S. industries from unjust trade practices. He was lead counsel for scores of trade enforcement cases and was a renowned supporter for the type of “America First” trade policies supported by President Trump.
Ambassador Lighthizer is from Ashtabula, Ohio. He has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University. He also obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Robert Wilkie is the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Senate confirmed his position on July 23, 2018. He was sworn into his position as the 10th Secretary of Veteran Affairs on July 30, 2018. He was also serving as the acting Secretary for VA from March 28 to May 29, 2018. He has over 20 years of federal service in national and international levels.
Prior to his confirmation as the VA Secretary, Mr. Wilkie worked for Secretary James Mattis. He was his Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness which is the chief advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for Total Force Management.
Being the son of an Army artillery commander, Mr. Wilkie spent his youth at Fort Bragg. Currently, he is a colonel in the US Air Force Reserve and is designated at the Office of the Chief of Staff. Prior to joining the Air Force, he served in the US Navy Reserve with the Joint Forces Intelligence Command, Office of Naval Intelligence, and the Naval Special Warfare Group Two.
The Vice President of the United States is Michael R. Pence. The duties of the Vice President, outside of those specified in the Constitution, are at the judgment of the current President. Each Vice President approaches the role differently some take on a specific document collection, while others serve simply as a consultant to the President.
The main responsibility of the Vice President of the United States is to simply be ready at a moment’s notice to assume the Presidency if the President is unable to perform his duties. This can be because of the death of the President, resignation, or perhaps a temporary incapacitation. The Vice President also serves as the President of the United States Senate, where he or she casts the deciding vote in the case of a tie, unless in the case of tiebreaking votes.
The EOP, also known as the Executive Office of the President is managed by the White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows. The EOP has usually been home to many of the President’s closest advisers. But Senate confirmation is required for a few of the advisers, like the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, most are appointed with full Presidential preference.
The several different offices that these advisors manage have definitely grown in size since the EOP was created. The Congress has formed some of those offices, and the others because the President has needed them desperately. The present EOP has recently been employing over 1,800 people.
